September 7, 2006 - 1st grade - Aged 6 years, 1 month and 20 days I started the 1st grade this week. Luckily, I'm in class with some of my friends from kindergarten. My teacher's name is Ms. Dearolf and she's seems to be nice which is good. Mommy is working in the kindergarten and so I've been by to visit her in class. I also visited with my old teacher, Mrs. Markowitz and saw all the new kids. Its only the first week of school so homework hasn't been too hard...yet. August 21, 2006 - The last 2 weeks of summer - Aged 6 years, 1 month and 5 days I can hardly believe that summer is almost over! Only 2 more weeks until school begins and then I'll be in the 1st grade. We went for a walk in Franklin Canyon last Wed evening. A Naturalist gave us a tour around the lake and then we made a campfire before making smores. We had a fun weekend. Spent Sat at a water park with Jordan. Far and I went on all the big slides and had a blast. I can't wait to go back. Yesterday, we hung out at the beach with David, visiting from France. Far and David tried boogie boarding, but got thrown around by the big waves, so we played frisbee on the beach, caught sand crabs and made a harbor in the sand. The waves were big and so our harbor didn't fare so well. June 19, 2006 - The last week of kindergarten! Its my last week of kindergarten and I'm looking forward to summer vacation, yeah! 1st grade will be lots of fun, but also lots of work. Today, we visited the 1st grade classrooms to see what we would be doing next year. We'll get to go on field trips and do a lot of reading and writing. We're going to have a pizza party and have lots of fun these last 3 days of school. June 19, 2006 - Eco Station Snake! Today was the last day for my Eco Station class and we met a red-tailed boa! He was pretty long and weighed 15 lbs. I got to hold him - I had to stand with my arms out like a tree and got to get a pretty look at his skin. Its a really neat class where I learned a lot about animals and reptiles. June 26, 2006 - A week on my own - Aged 5 years, 11 months and 9 days This week I'm staying in Oxnard without Mommy, Far or Chripher. I don't have school or camp so I get to hang out and have fun with Ojii-chan, Oba-chan, Uncle Ko and Auntie Corina. Today I rode my bike while Oba-chan ran. Then, Uncle Ko and I went kayaking in the Channel Islands harbor and afterwards went swimming in the pool. It started raining while we were swimming and so we jumped into the jacuzzi to keep warm. Its fun to hang out here and on Friday we are heading up to Mammoth for a weekend of fishing and hiking. I can't wait! May 31, 2006 - Carnival of the Animals - Aged 5 years, 10 months and 14 days The kindergarten class performed "The Carnival of the Animals" today for our parents. We've been learning about the musical from our music teacher, Mrs. Pitesky all year long and it was fun to finally be able to perform it for our parents. February 26, 2006 - Fastelavn - Aged 5 years, 7 months and 9 days Far and I went to the Danish church today to celebrate Fastelavn. I dressed up as an Airforce Pilot and did my best to hit the barrel. I broke the metal on it, but not the barrel. Finally someone hit it hard enough and let the poor cat out. December 25, 2005 - Losing my first tooth! - Aged 5 years, 5 months and 7 days I was soooo happy yesterday. I lost my first tooth! Its one of my lower front teeth and its been getting looser every day this week. It really loosened up when I bit into an apple. Then when I was playing with Chripher last night it popped out! I put it in my pillow for the Tooth Fairy and this morning I found $1 in its place! I'm taking the $1 and my other money in my bank and hope to buy something at Legoland later this week. November 24, 2005 - Thanksgiving - Aged 5 years, 4 months and 7 days We learned about Thanksgiving at school this month. We made a turkey and on its feathers we wrote about what we are thankful for... I am thankful for going to Oxnard. I am thankful that I am almost taller than my Grandmother. November 18, 2005 - Walk-a-thon - Aged 5 years, 4 months and 1 day We all did a walk-a-thon at school today to help raise money for field trips. I asked the family to sponsor me and I walked 5 laps in 1/2 hour. That's just over 1 mile. I walked with an older student to helped keep me going around the track. There were parents and teachers there to cheer us on and to spray water on us too. It was lots of fun! October 26, 2005 - I'm having a great time in kindergarten. Today, I was the helper at the beginning of the class and did a lot of things with Mrs. Markowitz. Normally, we talk about the day, the date and the plan for the day. Afterwards, we say the "Pledge of Allegiance". Tomorrow I'm having lunch with Mrs. Markowitz in the garden so that she'll get to know me better. After school I have Star and will be in Track & Field. October 16, 2005 - Wild Ants - Aged 5 years and 3 months I was really upset today. I went up to my room to show Uncle Ko my ant farm and when we saw it, wild ants had gone in and killed my ants in the farm! They got in through the air holes and took it over. Boy was a bummed. Mommy ordered another set of ants and when they arrive, we'll put it in a tray of water so the outside ants can't come in again. October 5, 2005 - Class helpers - Aged 5 years, 2 months and 13 days Today, Mommy, Farmor and Auntie Trina helped Mrs. Markowitz in my class. They told me that we worked really hard and were impressed at how much we learn each day. I think they also worked very hard helping us to stamp 10 rectangles on paper and to help us find our "key" words for the week in our book. It was fun to have them there and I hope that Far can help too one day soon. September 16, 2005 - I just finished my 2nd week of kindergarten. My teacher's name is Mrs. Markowitz and she's very nice. I have homework every day (except Friday) and I'm learning to do it with Mommy's help. I had a nice surprise today when Far picked me up after school. I was expecting Mommy and Chripher, but he was there instead! He even brought me a cookie to eat on the way home. September 8, 2005 - A new school - Aged 5 years, 1 month and 19 days I started kindergarten at a new school this week at Roscomare Road Elementary. I'm happy to know one person from preschool, Taylor. He's with me in the morning KED (kindergarten extended day) program and then we are in separate classes in the afternoon. My teacher is called Mrs. Markowitz and she's nice. She's wearing a cast because she had broken her arm snow skiing earlier this year. Today I bought lunch at the cafeteria - chicken nuggets and they were yummy. It only costs $1 so I'll buy lunch when its a good menu. Tomorrow is pizza so I'm buying lunch again. So far so good. I gave Mommy some papers so that she can help in class. I think it will be fun to have her there so that she can see what I'm doing. July 31, 2005 - Bodyboarding - Aged 5 years and 14 days I learned to bodyboard today! It was sooo fun. Far took me out into the waves on the board and pushed me back toward shore with the waves. I had a blast and kept at it for a long time. Far said that I can get my own boogie board after we get back from Denmark. July 18, 2005 - A super weekend on Catalina - Aged 5 years and 1 day What a super birthday weekend! We went to Catalina island to camp with our friends Torben, Charlotte, Nikolaj and Sebastian. Mommy and Far said that I was there about 3 years ago with Bjarne, Lena and Banana. We bought a huge 8 person tent and found 2 great campsites next to each other. We walked, explored and swam the entire weekend - it was great. The best part had to be feeding the fish. We got fish food and the fish were so hungry and they practically swarmed you. I had a dive mask on so was able to see the fish under water - that was really fun. I can't wait to go back there again. July 5, 2005 - Animal Adventures - Aged 4 years, 11 months and 17 days I love my "Animal Adventures" class at art camp. Today, we learned about possums and we petted one that had been rescued. It only had 3 legs since it lost one in an accident. People aren't allowed to have possums for pets, but the rescue services can take care of them until they are well enough to go back into the wild. June 28, 2005 - Art Camp - Aged 4 years, 11 months and 11 days I started at art camp today. Its nearby our house at the Children's Art Institute and its FUN! I take 4 classes...Art Mania, Yoga, Drama and Animal Adventures. I made a door hanger in Art today, did some dog poses in Yoga, did some acting and learned about bunnies in Animal Adventures. We even got to hold and pet the bunnies. One bunny scratched someone in the earlier class so we had to be extra careful. Chripher isn't old enough to go to camp with me so he hangs out with Mommy. Today, they took Far to the airport - he's on his way to France again and won't be home until just before my birthday party. I'm really looking forward to camp again on Thursday. I wonder what animal we'll learn about in Animal Adventures? June 14, 2005 - I got stitches! - Aged 4 years, 10 months and 28 days I gave Mommy a big shock today. Chripher and I were outside playing with our bungy cords (we use them to pull our toys around like a tow truck). Anyway, somehow the one I was playing with snapped back and hit me in the face. There was a lot of blood and I asked Mommy to put on a band aid. She washed it off and told me that we had to rush to the hospital because a band aid wasn't going to work this time. We visited the UCLA emergency room - where Chripher went when he had croup - and there was a long line of people there waiting to see a doctor. We had to wait an hour before we saw the nurse and then another 1.5 hours before we got in to see the doctor! Unfortunately, we left the house so fast that Mommy didn't have time to pack our snack bag, so we raided the snack machines instead. A nice nurse and Dr. Otieno helped me. One of my ouchies went all the way through into my mouth and the other wasn't too bad. They put on anesthetic before they stitched me up so I didn't feel anything. That was nice. The doctor said that I was a very brave boy and did well. It took almost 4 hours to get it all done, but since Dr. Woo's office was closed, we had to go to the emergency room. The doctor said that we have to be careful about the stitches and so I won't be able to swim for a long time. That's a big bummer since Kikuo and Kathy are having a pool party this weekend. June 12, 2005 - Active Weekend - Aged 4 years, 10 months and 26 days We had a super busy weekend and got going as soon as Far came home from Europe on Friday. We took him for some coffee and ice cream at the Proud Bird - a cool little restaurant next to a runway at the airport. We looked for the cat that was resting in the model plane's engine, but it wasn't there this time. On Sat, Chripher and I went to our swim class. I'm working on the crawl and learning to use my arms. Straight after, we headed out to Far's company picnic. There was a live action cowboy show that was pretty cool. They used "pretend" guns, but they sounded real and had a loud bang! There was good food and I really liked the snow cones and ice cream. From there we headed out to a 1 year birthday party for our cousin Kyle. They had a neat rocket bouncer there and I'm going to have that for my birthday party next month! Mommy and Far were very productive on Sunday and were busy painting the house. Mommy worked on the inside and Far was painting the outside. They said that it was touch up work that needed to be done after the new windows had been put in. Far patched up some plaster in Chripher and my room and will have to finish sanding and painting it next weekend. May 10, 2005 - Police Badge - Aged 4 years, 9 months and 21 days I met lots of policemen at our local homeowner's meeting tonight. Police Chief Bratton came and spoke to us and while we were waiting for him, a nice sergeant gave me a police badge sticker! Chripher got one too. Its so cool. April 25, 2005 - Hermit Crabs - Aged 4 years, 9 months and 7 days We spent the afternoon at the beach yesterday near San Onofre (the nuclear power plant) down towards San Diego. Far, Carsten and Jian all went out surfing while we played with our new friends, Byron and Nina. Their Ojii-chan was visiting was Japan and he was really good at finding hermit crabs in the tide pools. He found at least 12 of them! They were fun to watch in our buckets and afterwards we let them go back into the water. April 19, 2005 - Butterfly - Aged 4 years, 9 months and 2 days My caterpillar came out of its chrysalis yesterday. We let it dry out its wings and put sugar water inside for it to drink. It didn't drink any so we let it go today. I put it on a flower and when I checked on it later, it was gone. I hope it has a nice time outside in the garden. April 13, 2005 - Fire alarm at school! - Aged 4 years, 8 months and 26 days We had to evacuate to the bike yard today. A pumper engine came to the school and the firemen all came in to check out what was burning. It turned out to be the laminator! It smoked a lot and now the teachers will have to wait until the school gets a new one. April 11, 2005 - Snakes and caterpillars! - Aged 4 years, 8 months and 24 days While I was going to turn on the faucet to water the plants, I saw a snake!! It really scared me because it was right next to the faucet. I ran back to the house and told Mommy and she came back with my camera. Its body looks like a big rope and Mommy said that it eats mice. Chripher and I also got some caterpillars last week. Mine made its chrysalis and now we're waiting for Chripher's to do the same. We're looking forward to them turning into painted butterflies! March 27, 2005 - Egg Hunt - Aged 4 years, 8 months and 10 days We scored on the Easter egg hunt this year. The Easter bunny hid loads of eggs in our backyard. A few were even brought over from New Zealand!! Our friends Sofia, Sebastian, Soren and Anne came over on Sat and we ran all around the backyard and found over 50 eggs all filled with candy! Our parents wouldn't let us eat it all, but we were allowed a few right away. That's ok because I'll be able to eat candy for the rest of the year! March 15, 2005 - Up and coming singer - Aged 4 years, 7 months and 25 days What a fun afternoon we spent at Kikuo's work - it also double as their studio. We had a lot of fun recording some songs that Kikuo added some drums to and also recorded a few versions of the "ABC's" and then he put it all together. I now have my own CD!! Pretty cool. I also got creative and recorded a song called, "Tiger". If you're lucky, Mommy will figure out how to post the song on our website. Cross your fingers! March 2, 2005 - Fred Hall Fishing Show - Aged 4 years, 7 months and 13 days Today, Uncle Ko and I went to a huge fishing show at the Long Beach convention center. I had a great time. I got to fish for trout, shoot a bow and arrow and see lots of boats and fishing stuff. There was also a hunting lodge booth that had lots of stuffed deer and bobcats. I asked Uncle Ko why people shoot these animals and he said that it was to feed their family. I saw my picture in the magazine at the show and brought home 2 copies. Its pretty exciting to see my picture in a real magazine! I liked the show and want to go again next year! February 20, 2005 - Legoland and Rain - Aged 4 years, 7 months and 3 days As usual, we had a busy weekend...this one especially since it was a 3 day weekend. It was to celebrate President's day - not Mr. Bush (as Mommy and Far emphasized), but rather Presidents Washington and Lincoln. We visited our favorite place, Legoland on Sunday and Monday. We were afraid that the rains would spoil our day, but it didn't! We met Sofia and her family there as well as friends of theirs, so we were a big group of 12...3 boys and 3 girls so it was even. We had a blast playing in the computer center and the test track. Far and I built some pretty cool cars - ours even won the races a few times. It rained on Monday, so unfortunately the park closed at 11. We watched the world record Lego tower being measured and then hit the local children's museum. That was a cool place with a supermarket and cool science exhibits that we could work on. One of the neatest things was the bubble that you could pull up around yourself. We got one to come up to my waist! February 11, 2005 - Proud Parents - Aged 4 years, 6 months and 23 days Mommy's entry...its nice to know that Nicholas is developing well! Teacher Alicia sent us a nice email last week. "Hi Pedersen's, just wanted to send you a quick email to
tell you again what a pleasure it is to have Nicholas in our class. Yesterday
during center time one of his friends was sad, Nicholas decided to play with him
to make him feel better. He is such a kind and empathetic boy, and he is a
great role February 8, 2005 - Fat Tuesday and Pancakes - Aged 4 years, 6 months and 21 days Today was "Fat Tuesday"...Far got all excited, came home early and we made PANCAKES (crepes in France)!. He said that he used to do that on this day when he was growing up in England. Mommy and Far ate theirs with lemon juice and sugar, while Chripher and I had ours filled with Nutella. I later tried it with just sugar and that was the BEST way to eat it. February 7, 2005 - Micro Biologist in the making - Aged 4 years, 6 months and 20 days I went to a "Micro Biologist" class at the Santa Monica Aquarium today. We learned about pollution and made our own polluted water by adding soil, leaves, oil and candy wrappers. We learned that we need to keep trash out of the storm drains, otherwise it will end up in the ocean. Afterwards, we went over to the shark tank and got to touch and feed them cut up fish! We also had craft time and listened to stories inside an inflatable whale! Pretty cool. Heal the Bay organizes this class and manages the aquarium. They help keep the beaches and ocean in Los Angeles clean. I'm really looking forward to some more classes this summer. January 25, 2005 - Kidspace - Aged 4 years, 6 months and 8 days We went to Kidspace today. Its a new children's museum in Pasadena next to the Rose Bowl. What a fun place! They have an area for bikes and they're almost like the ones we rode with Bror in Copenhagen. Mommy said that the bikes were made in Denmark. Chripher and I liked the one where we could both sit on it together and I raced around the track with him. He couldn't reach the pedals very well so this arrangement worked out for him. January 17, 2005 - MLK Holiday - Aged 4 years, 6 months and 1 day We didn't have school on Monday. It was to celebrate a man's birthday - he died a long, long time ago. Teacher Alicia and Teacher Mike talked to us about Martin Luther King, Jr. and how we were going to celebrate his birthday. My classmates and I didn't understand why we would celebrate a dead guy's birthday, but Teacher Alicia said that it was because he did a lot of good things for this country. Happy birthday Martin Luther King, Jr.! January 9, 2005 - Blackout - Aged 4 years, 5 months and 23 days We've had relentless rain - over 10 inches this weekend alone. As part of the Disaster Team in our neighborhood and have a CB radio and FRS radios to communicate with other neighbors in case of an emergency. So today, we had a disaster drill in the rain. We had an antennae on our car so that we could get better reception this time. We drove around in groups and looked around for fallen rocks, mudslides and fallen trees. We saw all of that and reported it. (Far is keeping an eye on our yard to make sure water is draining away from the house and hillside.) When we got home we found that we didn't have power. It was off all day and for a while it was cool using candles for light and the fireplace to keep warm. But I think Mommy and Far got tired of it when it was 8:30 at night and still no power. Far had some work to do and was working on his computer by candlelight when finally, at 9pm the power came back on! Mommy was so happy because she could watch her favorite tv show, "Desperate Housewives". I think she was going to be a "desperate housewife" if she didn't get to watch it! |
